DEAD LEGENDS – LUNGA EP

About

release #033
released March 17. 2013

Dead Legends is quickly emerging from the rubble of several local ska/punk heroes, and their debut EP, Lunga, is proff that good things do come in small packages. These six high energy tunes are a fun whirlwind beaming with pride and the realization of the band’s own talents. John Bourgeois is as busy as ever, but now sounds like the driving force rather than a disjointed novelty. Ryan Leavelle, who splits time with labelmates All People, is once again making a strong case for himself as one of the most technical and inspired rock guitar players in the New Orleans punk scene. Crisp production on “Controller” lends itself to sweet vocal harmonies reminiscent of early Spring Heeled Jack and MU330, while the dirty “Dope Nose” evokes the last days of Slapstick. More than anything, this active injection does a good job of capturing the energy of a live show. When I caught them at Block Party, it jolted me back to a past life, but also had me looking forward to their next move. – Kevin Comarda, Anti-Gravity
