An incredible whirlwind of complex time signature throw-downs mixed with well constructed space jamz and a knack for great songwriting. This is what happens when ABE and Informant decide to have a musical baby in the format of a 12″ clear vinyl. Recorded and Mixed by Bryan Leavelle of ABE, the album’s opening track, “Hopeless”, ominously begins with drums and feedback then quickly jumps into a brutal time signature battle that will leave your head spinning in the best way. Lyrically, “Hopeless” and the remainder of Side A offers an intelligent view of the state of our world, both culturally and politically, and offers a message of hope to the bottom 90%. The Ernies also revisit the ironic styling of “Athiest” (Dumpster Generation) in the track “Gone,” which is sung from the perspective of an old friend and their rampant drug problem. Also notable is the band’s tasteful use of vocal harmonies and throughout.

The other side of this record is a totally different experience altogether. Upon flipping the record you dive into Informant’s world, a world of water-like soundscapes, groovy riffs, and well placed trombone lines. In “Don’t Make Me, No Nevermind,” you can hear the band’s blues influences mixing with their modern progressive rock sound, as well as their signature floating-through-space soundscapes. With every track employing well thought out dueling guitars, this band takes back the term noodling and makes it rock. The last track, “Lately,” is a hot, slow reggae jam that features Chris, the trombone player, on vocals, as well as a great guitar solo from Fred and trombone solo from Chris.
